Linear Abstraction II

The deconstruction of a piece of felt into strips which is then reconstructed in a fashion, though not quite, serves a very real purpose. If Impressionism is about marks that seem disparate at close range but blend together to reveal an image from a distance, then the intention of my work is the opposite. From a distance the spacing of the strips give the work a fractured look. What is happening on the surface of the felt comes together when viewed at close range. Physically drawing the viewer to the work is my intention. Here is where the beauty of the work emerges- colors blend, colors contrast, color overlap, yarns meander through, jolt and lead the eye. These are the details I want seen.
