The strength and durability of felt lends itself to manipulation. Moving beyond the plaiting and strips I am normally drawn to, I began to cut and turn the felt back on itself. The making of felt is a layering process that can be used to advantage. What happens on the bottom layer can now be brought to the surface and the thickness of the layers- which can vary- become part of the visual field. Yarns that normally would have been felted into the surface for their visual effect now have an additional purpose- instruments for holding the felt into place and/or binding it.
